THE EVANGELICAL CLIMATE INITIATIVE

Sir John Houghton is one of the world's leading climate scientists. He is also a devout evangelical Christian. This site contains his March 2005 presentation to the National Association of Evangelicals. Please note, under "Presentations on the Science", on page 21 of Sir John's slide show presentation that policies should work to "stabilize CO2 concentrations in the range 500-550 ppm". The current estimation (2007) is that concentrations should not be allowed to rise above 450 ppm CO2 in order to avoid a runaway feedback effect.

It is an all encompassing subject with causes inclusive to many aspects of the state of humanity and populations' responses to poverty and economic inequality, and limited education. The Clinton Global Iniative addresses many of these social problems in addition to climate change directly. Although this link will take you directly to initiatives related to climate change, take the time to explore the site for a broader perspective.

THE BRUNDTLAND REPORT - "OUR COMMON FUTURE"

Climate change is nothing new. What is new is the undeniable proof of anthropogenic causation and the rate at which climate change and its effects are occuring. There is clearly no debate in 2007 although there is still evidence in the media of mass confusion and denial (see "Be Aware of Planned Deception on the right side of this web page).  Denial is also an emotional and very human response to deny something so horrific as the possibility of mass extinction.  What matters is to acknowledge what is true, so that we can start working on human change as soon as possible.  As recent 1987 it was clear that something had to be done. It is just taking some time to filter down to the lay person, and through all the blocks to that truth. "Climate change" isn't a subject unto itself - it is weaved within a web of human behaviour, morality and, some would point out, is the consquence of such. It stems from an all encompassing reality of humanity and causes inclusive of the state of populations' responses to poverty, economic inequality, consumption, and limited education and understanding among both the "impoverished" and the "wealthy" nations. For a primer encompassing more than just the narrow focus of climate change see this report in easty to read format for the lay person. The report was developed by the "World Commission on Environment and Development" . The Commission itself was established in 1983 by the United Nations.
